My Chemical Romance: The Black Parade
May 15th 2008 14:39
The third outing from this post hardcore rock band, and by far the finest work of theirs so far, The Black Parade is as unique and brilliant as the title. Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day’s American Idiot) it is evident that the same mind was the driving force here.
A concept album focusing in the themes of death and the meaning of life, the boys have created some memorable songs, some having a defiant edge (House of Wolves, The Sharpest Lives), a fearless fun (Welcome to the Black Parade, Teenagers) and some that are outright sad (Cancer, Mama).
The musicianship seems to have improved over Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and Gerard’s voice has found its permanent niche and displays improved control and range. I found myself singing along to theses songs in no time flat as the melodies are accessible and the lyrics seem to flow out of them effortlessly. My personal favorite off of the album is “This Is How I Disappear”, a great disc with lots of energy and attitude.
Album Rating: A
Sounds Like: Tim Burton directing Queen
Buy? If you are into this sort of thing, yes
