Foo Fighters: Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
May 16th 2008 19:02
We all know that the Foo Fighters rock hard and Dave has rock roots that go deeper than most, and this album is a shining example of the sounds that the Foo can make. The album kicks off with the first single and riotous anthem “The Pretender”, and the remainder of the album follows suit. The second single “Long Road to Ruin” is a nice melodic and somewhat catchy tune, and is a nice offset to the normal head banging that the band does so well.
One of the more impressive tracks in the list is the instrumental “Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners”. Done only with acoustic guitars, I’m glad to see its inclusion on the disc, it truly does display the musicianship of the band. Another high point is the strangely romantic “Summer’s End” complete with a nod to Dave’s home state (technically a Commonwealth) Virginia, and flowing melody that you may find yourself humming. The weak points are the nauseously repetitive “Come Alive” the almost whiny
“But Honestly.”
Overall a great album, only marred by a few tracks that should have been “Erase(d)/Replace(d)”. The Foo Fighters continue their course to true rock greatness, and maybe one of those bands that we will listen to for decades, they are that good, sadly this album could have been better.
Album Rating: A-
Sounds Like: What Rock is supposed to sound like
