Update!

June 23rd 2008 13:49
Hello,

Just a quick update to all who read my blog, I get more readers here than anywhere else,so for that thank you and thanks to Orble for having such a great place to meet and read. The reason for such few posts lately is my PC monitor went out, so that has a way of decreasing output Hopefully that little situation will be resolved sooner than later.

I have started a new website devoted to my other media love interest, movies. TheMovieSpace.com is the URL, so please stop by to check it out whenever you can, also if you would like to blog on the site just zip me an email to themoviespace [at] gmail dot com, and we will set something up. Unfortunately I can't offer to pay anything at this point, but depending on how the site goes, it could be a possibility in the future.

Thanks again for the readership!

Three Doors Down

June 21st 2008 19:10
The new and self-titled album from the slightly southern rock band Three Doors down has hit the shelves, it aptly named. This album showcases the band’s every aspect and somehow sounds more like TDD than they ever did. The first half of the disc is superb, ranging from introspective (Citizen/Soldier) to hard rockin’ train (Train) songs and everywhere in between. But in usual TDD manner the second half of the album falls off to nothing, it just seems to drag by, and ends on the slowest song if the set. A good listen by any standards, especially if you are a fan, don’t however expect a Grammy.

Sounds Like: Three Doors Down

Buy? Yes, fans only

Album Grade: B

American Idol Justice…

May 22nd 2008 14:10
Finally, the nation has risen to the occasion and has voted the correct contestant to victory. David Cook, 25 of Blue Springs MO is the American Idol, and I couldn’t be happier. Although generally I haven’t voted in the many seasons that I have watched the TV king, I voted my phone dead on Tuesday night. I was not going to sit by and watch another teen idol come to fruition, then go to the Disney Channel, then date Miley Cyrus, then fizzle out in his mid-twenties, never to be heard from or seen again. That is what I fear would have happened to Archie (David A.). I concur that the boy has talent, and that he should make his living with it, but I believe that his inexperience would have steered him awry. He will do just fine, and in fact will probably have an album hit the shelves before David Cook.

What a night it was for American Idol, beating every record previously set by the media giant, and having a night filled guest stars, and several performances by this seasons top 12 contestants. The Highlight for me was “Sharp Dressed Man” by the legendary rock trio ZZ Top, with DC on lead vocal. A moment I am sure that he will never forget, and neither will I. I must say the low point of the night was the strange song choice, and placement, of George Michael. To have such a song performed before the most anticipated results show in the history of TV entertainment was a bit off the mark.

My thoughts are that all of the AI fans that watched Chris Daughtry in season five and Bo Bice in season four, did not set “Idoly” by and let the best talent go home early. Truly the rocker should have won this year, it was time. We will be watching and waiting for DC’s album to drop, and for those of you that have any pre-AI recordings of David Cook, you could probably sell them for a small fortune. We are happy for you David, both of you.

Finding Your Inner Blog

May 18th 2008 06:27
I know that I generally write about music, but I thought that this info could be helpful to others starting out in the blogging community I hope that some of this will help, please feel free to link this page if you want, I will try to write more on the topic in the future

Blogging is a fairly new medium that has become what one could call a craze, in certain spheres of the internet community. Many bloggers have become self-sufficient by simply writing about the things that they care about, are interested in or on topics in which they have defined opinions. Though there are many niches for any of us to write about, finding a topic that is not over-crowded but is still popular is a hard one to do

We all know that the Foo Fighters rock hard and Dave has rock roots that go deeper than most, and this album is a shining example of the sounds that the Foo can make. The album kicks off with the first single and riotous anthem “The Pretender”, and the remainder of the album follows suit. The second single “Long Road to Ruin” is a nice melodic and somewhat catchy tune, and is a nice offset to the normal head banging that the band does so well.

One of the more impressive tracks in the list is the instrumental “Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners”. Done only with acoustic guitars, I’m glad to see its inclusion on the disc, it truly does display the musicianship of the band. Another high point is the strangely romantic “Summer’s End” complete with a nod to Dave’s home state (technically a Commonwealth) Virginia, and flowing melody that you may find yourself humming. The weak points are the nauseously repetitive “Come Alive” the almost whiny

Longevity

May 16th 2008 15:28
Will we be listening to today’s music twenty years from now? Ten years? Will the oldies stations be playing the flavor-of-the-month pop act in five years? It all just makes me wonder if there will ever be any bands like U2 or the Rolling Stones who can be relevant for decades.

My most sincere and educated guess tells me that until creative freedom is given completely to the artists, and not the producers and A&R label reps, the 21st century is going to be plagued with one-hit-wonders and Disney channel pop idols. I’m not implying that there is no talent in today’s industry nor that there are any original voices out there, I just don’t see them having long-term impact on the musical canvas. I haven’t heard a song on the radio lately that made me sit up and say, “This is going to change things,” nor have I heard what I think will be a classic years from now

Great Rock Covers Part 1

May 16th 2008 03:45
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. In that case covering someone else's song is a true compliment. Today I will begin a list of what I think are some of the greatest rock covers around. This is not a countdown and there is no certain order, I'm not going to limit myself that way.

Nightwish: Dark Passion Play

May 15th 2008 14:44
If you have heard of this band and you live in the US, congratulations, there are now seven of us. That may be exaggerating, but this band does not often get radio play in the States, for some reason. Nightwish is what every metal band with a lady lead singer should be, but only one is. Their Scandinavian operatic symphonic metal is one of my favorite blends out there, and will soon be yours as well.

The opening song, “The Poet and the Pendulum” is a thirteen-minute epic that sets the stage for what is about to befall those who listen, like a chorus of the 19th Century European stage plays. The music is powerful and makes you feel like everything you do is powerful, especially whilst driving. Great melodies, and haunting lyrics that are woven together in a tapestry of dark delight, Dark Passion Play may be the best Nightwish album so far, although barely above Once
